YOGA FOOD FOCUS: LEMONS

It could be fair to say that lemons are one of the most versatile health foods going around. Their juice is detoxifying and can be added to plain old water to create an easy, refreshing and rehydrating health drink!

During hot yoga, we lose a lot of sweat, and sometimes water doesn’t cut it when it comes to rehydrating. Lemon helps with the rehydration process because it balances the pH levels in the body and replenishes vitamins and minerals that are often sweated out during class. Team that with a pinch of Himilayan salt, and you’ve got a natural, homemade sports drink that will rehydrate you and taste delicious (minus the sugar and preservatives!). They can even be used as a natural alternative to some cleaning and skin products — is there anything they can’t do!?

GREEN SPOT

Ingredients:

  • Handful spinach / kale
  • Half an avocado
  • 
Half a carrot (small carrot)
  • Half lemon
  • 1 kiwi fruit
  • Tablespoon of linseeds / flaxseeds / chia seeds
  • Water

 

Method:

  • Add all the ingredients to a blender and fill with water to ¾ (WITH all the ingredients already inside).
  • Blend until smooth and serve in a tall, chilled glass.
  • Squeeze some lemon over the top for some extra zestiness!
